Anyway, this has led me to decide that I will start offering greenscreen photography as an optional upgrade. It will only be available with the open photo tower and I have not decided on a price yet, since I will have to buy some extra equipment and there will be extra time involved in the setup (time is money), not to mention that everyone will want a copy of every photo they are in, so I’ll need to account for extra printing costs. Speaking of robots… I almost forgot, because I didn’t get to see any of the competitions. The FIRST Robotics Championships were the real reason I was there. Our booth was in the middle of the pit area where teams of high school kids from all over the world were tuning and testing the robots they built for this year’s challenge. The National Instruments (NI)crew was there mainly to provide tech support for the teams who were using NI’s products in their robots.  The photo above is three of my main button-making crew, and the next photo is a group of NI staff who worked as tech volunteers for the competitions.

I’ve come across a payment system that bypasses the huge fees associated with credit card processing or the evil that is PayPal. It’s called dwolla. They only charge 25 cents per transaction because it runs through the ACH system like electronic checks instead of the credit card system. And it’s free on transaction less than $1.00.

And for a short time you can send them a text message and get back a dollar credited to your dwolla account (which means deposited directly into your bank account once you’re all set up). More details about the free money below:

I would love to get all client payments through this system, as it would save me from $25 – $60 per booking. Of, course I know that some customers are actually paying with credit cards, rather than debit cards or checks, which is where this system does not work. In the mean time I can still use my choice between Google Checkout, @Square or my most recent find, Intuit GoPayment to accept credit card payments.

Photo Booths are showing up in more and more places in film and tv, as well as print ads for major fashion brands. I just found this YouTube video teaser for the upcoming American Pie sequel, “American Reunion” coming out in 2012.

Here’s a good article written by Trisha Berendt  on DexKnows Weddings about renting photobooths. I just have a few things to add or change:

• At the very beginning Trisha advises you to check dates with booth owners 3 months ahead… while this might be enough for some dates, it’s not enough for all dates. If you had trouble finding a venue for your reception at 12 months ahead of time you have a popular wedding date… and you should be looking for a photo booth 6 to 9 months before your wedding. Or you can wait, and either rent from the most expensive option, or the guy who isn’t getting booked because of his bad reputation for poor service and low quality.
• In step 3 she wants yo to use the booth yourself which will encourage others to get in on the fun… she’s absolutely right! Use the booth early and often… bride and groom, each of you with friends, family, the photo booth operator, wait-staff, get everybody in on the fun.
• And in the end she gives tips that I highly recommend myself. Keep the booth until the end of your reception, and have the DJ or band announce the booth all night, especially if they see it not being used.

Our photo booth was a big hit with our guests. Our wedding was a little over two years ago, and people still comment on how much fun it was. I even still have the print of my husband and myself displayed at work, the one strip of photos is able to capture how much fun the whole day was for us. I would recommend this as a must have addition to any reception.
